The Texas State Loop 9 Segment B project involved construction of a 10-mile, six-lane roadway between IH-35 and IH-45. The roadway has a reserved median, which will eventually be converted into an access-controlled highway. It begins near Red Oak, TX and terminates near Ferris. The total right-of-way is almost 570 acres, and includes 3.35 acres of permanent drainage easements. While some of the project involved restructuring existing roadways, almost all of it was new construction.
Austin Bridge & Road teams put forth a mammoth effort to complete almost one million SF of deck on the two-mile bridge, 315,000 CY of excavation, 340,000 CY of embankment, 2,100 LF of culvert work, and 150,000 tons of asphalt paving. The project team also had multiple residential, utility, and railroad stakeholders to manage project progress.
Austin lifted 1,000 TX70 beams while keeping safety a priority. Many of these critical lifts came over highways, waterways, and beneath high-powered 345 kV powerlines without any recordable incidents.
