Austin Commercial, as part of a four-team joint venture, completed the $1.27 billion Parkland Replacement Hospital. This new facility replaced the original Parkland Memorial Hospital, built in 1954, and serves as the centerpiece of the 64-acre healthcare campus within the Southwestern Medical District in Dallas. The Parkland campus also functions as a teaching hospital for the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) School of Medicine.
The joint venture, known as BARA, included Austin Commercial, Balfour Beatty Construction, H.J. Russell & Company, and Azteca Enterprises. To facilitate collaboration, communication, and planning among all partners, Parkland co-located the design and construcantion teams as an integrated unit. This unified team extensively utilized building information modeling (BIM) and Lean project delivery method to maximize project efficiency, increase jobsite safety, and enhance the quality of the finished project.
This approach ensured that the Parkland Replacement Hospital was delivered on time and met the high standards required for a modern healthcare facility, reinforcing its role as a critical component of the Southwestern Medical District.
