Austin was awarded the Newark Liberty International Airport Rental Car Facility, a 2,700,000 SF multi-level precast structure to house 3,362 ready return spaces, 2,703 public parking spaces, a customer service area, a quick-turnaround (QTA) area with 12 car washes, and 54 fueling stations. Scope included connection to the passenger bridge to the new terminal and making provisions for future APM. The facility is located at the main entrance to the airport requiring extensive coordination with the airport operations and other contractors delivering other major components of Newark’s Capital Program. Schedule logistics allowed the opening of the first phase of public parking in early 2022 with the remaining project phases finalized in early 2023. The MWBE goal for both the design and construction phases was exceeded, awarding $196,000,000 to 68 certified MWBE firms.
