The I-35 Cooke Co. #1 project consists of eight miles of full interstate and frontage road reconstruction and realignment, along with full removal of existing pavement sections and replacement with 18” of lime, 5” of asphalt, and 14” of concrete supports the travel way. Also included were 12 bridges built in phases to accommodate traffic flow during construction including four over the Trinity River. As part of the project, the bridge at FM 1306 was inverted and changed the overall traffic pattern from I-35 under the frontage road to above.
The overall project was split into eight different phases, requiring phased interface construction at all points in the project. New drainage was installed throughout the project with multiple new box culvert drainage systems under the roadway. New ITS, lights, and electronic message boards now line the corridor. The project also included the full reconstruction of multiple intersections, including FM 51 (Main St.) in Gainesville, Texas (including aesthetic features), FM 1306, Spring Creek, and Hird Street, as well as new on and off ramps throughout the corridor.
