The Chicago O'Hare International Terminal 5 Modernization project added 10 new swing gates, boosting international and domestic capacity. The renovation covered 1,100,000 square feet, totaling 1,380,000 square feet, and involved phased work to address logistical challenges at one of the world's busiest airports. The 280,000 square foot concourse extension included expanded sterile corridors, a central plant, updated apron paving, new concessions, and a loading dock. Additional upgrades featured a 70,000 square foot core expansion, gate renovations, TSA checkpoint improvements, and FIS/CBP facility reconfigurations. The project also replaced the baggage handling system, installed a ramp control tower, and upgraded electrical, HVAC, and fire alarm systems, integrating the control system into the airport backbone. The new gates opened three months early in May 2022, ahead of the planned August 2022 date.
