Austin Commercial uses a hybrid estimating approach when Building Information Models (BIM) are available. We believe the BIM should inform our estimate, but only as a supplement to the contract drawings and specifications. Our construction technology team reviews the model for accuracy then performs quantity takeoff for any identified high-value scopes. We then compare these quantities to the traditional 2D quantities we receive from our preconstruction staff. We believe having the ability to analyze all of the project data helps us put together more accurate estimates for our customers.
