ORLANDO - Austin Commercial has been recognized with two significant honors from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Central Florida for its work on the LEGOLAND® Florida Resort Galacticoaster project in Winter Haven, Florida.
The project earned an Eagle Award, the highest-scoring recognition in its category within ABC's Excellence in Construction (EIC) Awards program. As an Eagle Award recipient, the project has also advanced as a finalist for General Contractor Project of the Year, the program's highest honor across all categories. The Project of the Year winner will be announced in October.
Delivering a First-of-Its-Kind Attraction
The LEGOLAND Galacticoaster project introduced the first indoor roller coaster attraction for both Merlin Entertainments and Austin Commercial, creating an entirely new experience for guests visiting LEGOLAND Florida Resort.
The project scope included the demolition of an existing attraction and the construction of a new 31,000-square-foot indoor coaster facility. The development features a 28,000-square-foot ride building that houses the coaster itself, along with a 3,000-square-foot interactive queue experience designed to immerse guests before they board the attraction.
The project required careful planning, coordination and execution to meet the unique demands of constructing a state-of-the-art indoor amusement attraction while maintaining the quality and safety standards expected by both LEGOLAND and Austin Commercial.
