ORLANDO - Austin Commercial is pleased to announce it has earned a National Safety Pinnacle Award from Associated Builders and Contractors, presented at its 34th annual Excellence in Construction® Awards in Orlando, FL, on March 14.

This recognition marks the second time Austin has received ABC's Pinnacle Award and the fifth time it has received national safety recognition from ABC.

"Austin is proud to be honored by Associated Builders and Contractors for our excellent safety performance," said David B. Walls, President of Austin Commercial. "It's a testament to our employee-owners' commitment to a zero-incident mindset and ensuring that everyone returns home each day in the same condition in which they arrived."

"This recognition is a direct result of our employee-owners’ dedication to Austin's core value of safety, and the processes, procedures, training, and leadership that make safe work a reality," said Mike Morris, Vice President of Safety, Austin Industries. "We're thankful to our employee-owners and honored to be recognized."

The 2023 National Safety Excellence Award winners were selected from ABC member firms that achieved Diamond, Platinum or Gold status in ABC’s STEP Safety Management System in 2023, reflective of their 2022 safety performance data. During the selection process, contractors were judged on self-evaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable incident rates, leading indicator use, process and program innovations, and interviews conducted by members of ABC’s National Health and Safety Committee.

“Health and safety are core values for Austin Commercial, deeply integrated into the company’s actions and decision-making processes,” said 2024 National Chair of the ABC Board of Directors Buddy Henley, president, Henley Construction Co. Inc., Gaithersburg, Maryland. “Austin Commercial does not compromise on safety, relentlessly ensuring every employee arrives and leaves the jobsite in the same or better condition every day. Among the NSEA winners are several ABC Top Performers, which demonstrates the positive impact of implementing strong safety programs. Join me in thanking these top safety contractors for the example they set in this industry.”

ABC’s STEP Safety Management System provides contractors and suppliers with a robust, no-cost framework for measuring safety data and benchmarking with peers in the industry. The self-assessment tool helps participants identify real opportunities for scalable growth in their safety programs to lower their total recordable incident rates.

Austin extends its congratulations to the Austin Commercial team on this recognition and its continued success in demonstrating safety excellence!
