AUSTIN, TX - Austin Bridge & Road recently reached a major construction milestone at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport with the successful installation of all 49 beams for the Taxiway P Bridge. The operation was completed safely and efficiently in just two shifts, with approximately half of the beams set on the first day and the remaining beams installed on the second.
The Taxiway N&P Bridges represent only the second aircraft-rated bridge constructed in the State of Texas. Designed to support a Boeing 777-300ER with a maximum takeoff weight of 775,000 pounds, the bridges also account for a 30% impact factor and braking forces. The structure was further engineered with an additional 25% load capacity to accommodate future generations of heavier aircraft.
In addition to the operational success, the project team generated substantial cost savings by using Austin’s internal crane rather than relying on an outside rental or subcontracted equipment. This decision helped maximize company resources while keeping the beam installation on schedule.
