DART Blue Line Expansion Project

PROJECT BRIEF

The Dart Blue Line expansion from Garland to Rowlett, TX opened in 2012. As the prime contractor, Austin Bridge & Road (ABR) constructed 4.8 miles of light rail double-track guideway running along an existing freight rail right of way. The project scope included drainage and utility relocations and improvements, seven bridges, ballast walls, cut walls, retaining walls, and 8,300 linear feet of freight track realignment.

The trains are powered by four new traction power substations and an overhead catenary system. ABR exceeded the 42% DBE requirement by 16%. Despite the large number of subcontractors, ABR’s quality and safety standards remained undiminished, and the company celebrated two years with no lost time accidents. ABR earned substantial and final completion incentives.
