Phoenix Sky Harbor Taxiway

As part of the CMAR contract, Austin constructed a bridge over a live commercial aircraft taxiway.  The 100 feet tall and 740 foot long bridge can accommodate clearance of a Boeing 747 with a damaged nose landing gear. The bridge is comprised of three spans. The two outer spans are 200-ft. long and the center span over Taxiway ‘R’ is 340-ft. long.

The bridge carrying the new Phoenix Sky Train over Taxiway R at Sky Harbor International Airport is the first bridge in the U.S. to traverse active airspace. The Sky Train is a light rail interface connecting existing and future airport facilities with strategically-located stations at all terminals, parking areas, the rental car center and ground transportation at the fifth busiest airport in the U.S.
