HOUSTON, Texas – On October 17, Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston Chapter (ABC) recognized Austin Commercial for the Texas A&M University Davis Diamond Softball Stadium, and the University of Houston Clear Lake-Pearland Health Sciences & Classroom Building at the Excellence in Construction Awards (EIC), which showcased projects built by ABC of Greater Houston members that were rigorously judged on an array of criteria. This event recognizes outstanding projects in the commercial and industrial construction industry.

Austin Commercial had the opportunity to enter the annual competition and was judged on safety, quality, ingenuity, and workmanship. The project was evaluated by local owners, architects, and engineers on safety, execution of design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, installation, and other considerations. The company was awarded the ICE Award for the David Diamond project, and the Merit Award for UH Clear Lake, and is considered among the best of merit shop construction.

The Texas A&M University Davis Diamond Softball Stadium is a new 3-level softball stadium that provides approximately 2,000 fixed seats and includes a new 6,750 square foot indoor hitting facility, premium seating elements, club seats/club lounge, novelty retail sales, first aid, and team staff offices. Additional features include home team clubhouse facilities, visiting team and umpire’s locker rooms, food preparation, distribution and serving facilities, and press, media and broadcast facilities.

The University of Houston Clear Lake’s 75,000 square foot health sciences classroom building at its Pearland satellite campus is a multi-story academic building designed to be versatile in use, aesthetically appealing, and energy efficient. The facility houses the Center for Autism and Development Disabilities (CADD) and the License Professional Counselors Program (LPCP). In addition, the facility includes a new student services department, 100-seat tiered lecture hall, multiple flex-space classrooms, a student lounge and gathering area, biology and chemistry labs, a nursing services and healthcare teaching laboratory, and administrative offices. The project also consists of a new campus loop road, parking lot expansions, and a 30,000 CY enlargement of the adjacent City of Pearland detention pond.

ABC members are renowned for their dedication to safety and excellence in the construction field, and the awards program demonstrated that commitment.
