History

Austin Industries has a rich history. We are one of the largest and most diversified construction firms in the nation. Our financial strength – projects in progress exceeding $2 billion in completion value – is a testament to our longstanding sound financial management.

In 1902, Frank and George Austin began the fabrication and installation of iron truss bridges across Texas and Georgia, advancing the transportation infrastructure to meet the new demands of automobiles. Charles R. Moore, a manager of the Austin Brothers Bridge Company, purchased the contracting portion of the company in 1918, modifying the name to Austin Bridge Company. Adapting to economic conditions and social change more than five decades, Austin Industries – the holding company – was formed in 1974 as a managing entity. Today, Austin Industries oversees the operation of three companies – Austin Bridge & Road, Austin Commercial and Austin Industrial.

The Austin Industries Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) was instituted in 1986, transferring 60 percent of company ownership to employees over the next two years. By 2000, Austin Industries was 100 percent employee-owned. Today, with more than 6,000 employee-owners invested in the stewardship of Austin Industries resources, we are currently engaged in projects with a completion value in excess of $2 billion.
