Austin Industrial praised for its contribution to safety record

LyondellBasell Industries was chosen by Union Pacific Corporation to receive its Pinnacle Award for chemical transportation safety because of safe loading techniques, secured shipments and zero non-accident releases (NARs) during 2008.  LyondellBasell transported about 86 percent of its total U.S. rail chemical shipments on Union Pacific lines.

Austin Industrial provides rail, truck, and barge loading/unloading services at many LyondellBasell sites, including the Channelview complex.  The Austin operations team contributed to the company receiving the Union Pacific Pinnacle award.

"The employees and contractors at the Channelview complex continue to meet or exceed environmental and safety regulatory requirements to ensure the safe handling of our products," said Joseph A. Bernard, divisional vice president of manufacturing for the Channelview complex.  "The community has high expectations for our performance, and the members of the community advisory panel hold the management team accountable for our day-to-day operations by meeting monthly with plant managers, operators and technicians."

"I'm personally proud of the Union Pacific Pinnacle Award achievement because it validates the culture our employees have embraced at Channelview," Bernard said.  "We want to go home to our families in the same condition as when we arrived at work."
