Children's Medical Center Legacy

News Body:

The Children’s Medical Center Legacy project is a freestanding Pediatric Specialty Hospital in Plano, Texas. Located on an 81-acre treed site, the facility will provide specialized medical care for families in the rapidly expanding Collin County and surrounding areas. Children’s Medical Center Legacy will feature 60 medical/surgical beds, 12 intensive care unit beds, four operating rooms, full-service diagnostics, (including CT and MRI), and an urgent/emergency care center. Once opened, the Children’s Legacy campus will offer patients and their families the largest grouping of pediatric specialists in the North Dallas area.

The facility is being constructed to embrace the natural elements by which it is surrounded. Situated at the intersection of Preston and Hedgecoxe Roads, at the site of a former family farm, the hospital is in a prime location to meet the needs of the surrounding counties. The site will feature numerous water elements, including the White Rock Creek which aids in creating the park-like setting for the campus. In addition to the picturesque creek views, the grounds are further enhanced by gardens and the unique story tree which will aid in the recovery of the hospital’s young patients. The design of the facility embraces the surrounding landscape by providing full panoramic views of the hospital grounds.

Engaging the entire family in the healing process led to the creation of central activity zones that become the hub for the patient care “neighborhoods”. The nursing units extend from these zones in a “finger” arrangement allowing panoramic views of the outdoor stream from every patient room. By embracing the outside environment, the nursing areas are not only therapeutic for the children and their families, but also create a positive work environment for the caregivers.
