This one-mile section of the Papago Trail System connects nearby neighborhoods and businesses within the southern portion of Scottsdale and improved the existing approaches at the McDowell Road underpass.
Austin was hired to construct a new 10-foot wide, multi-use path along the west canal bank of the Crosscut Canal from McDowell Road north to Thomas Road. The new 6-inch concrete path replaced the deteriorating 8-foot wide asphalt and concrete path. Improvements to the existing approaches to the underpass at McDowell Road included demolition of the existing path and concrete walls and replacing them with gabion walls, new lighting at the underpass and along the pathway, as well as aesthetic treatments.
Additionally, Austin constructed concrete benches at the Oak Street bridge neighborhood gathering area and a public art element that included a landmark monument.
