Description

The Cady Mall tunnel renovation for ASU was a unique project. The University has an antiquated and complex tunnel system running under the active campus connecting all the University facilities to the utility systems including chilled water, electrical, and compressed air. The scope of our work included structural upgrades to 600 l.f. of the existing tunnel walls, replacement of the structural lid and associated improvements. It was a complex construction project to rebuild a main utility tunnel under a major university campus without disrupting internal utility service, vehicular and pedestrian traffic, or access to campus facilities. The project was completed using the Construction Manager at Risk delivery method.

The bonds that provided the revenue for the project were set to expire at the end of September. The goal of this project was to use the available funds before their expiration date. Austin worked early in the project with ASU and the design team to maximize the impact of a limited budget on this wide variety of priorities.
