Internship Program
Our internship program offers interested students the opportunity to grow their skills and develop an understanding of working a major construction site. This “hands-on” internship offers a variety of opportunities to participate on a project while getting paid for your efforts.
You will interact with both project management and construction (field) management teams and learn from experienced Austin Bridge & Road employee-owners. When you complete your internship with Austin Bridge & Road, you will have a strong understanding of the day-to-day operations of a project site and be able to apply that information to your classroom course work.
What to Expect from Internship
Our 12-week summer and 16-week semester internships offers the opportunity to learn a full range of project responsibilities and gain practical, proven jobsite experience that will enhance your education when you return to school in the fall.
Interested in a longer internship experience? Contact us about our semester-long programs.

- Learning the basics of costs, tracking materials, project coordination, safety and managing submittals
- Working with the field management team focusing on subcontractor management, quality control, material management and safety
Testimonials
“I worked on the IH30/President George Bush Turnpike Interchange which includes a mile long bridge over Lake Ray Hubbard, near Dallas. I was able to drive a boat, operate manlifts, work in the office, work with a bridge crew, call vendors and order supplies, survey, and learn from different people every day. I was given projects to complete, and I had the opportunity to get involved in anything and everything dealing with heavy highway construction. It was a great experience. I had fun, and the people who work for Austin Bridge & Road are really great.”

"As an intern for Austin Bridge & Road this summer, I had the opportunity to become more familiar with several aspects of a construction project that to date I had not been exposed to. Previously I had limited experience with everything that goes into pre-construction and mobilization activities prior to actual construction start-up. However, through my responsibilities and the tasks I was assigned, I was able to familiarize myself with everything from franchise utility negotiation to baseline schedule analysis, and the associated reporting requirements. I think it is important to gain knowledge outside of a classroom setting in order to better apply principles learned to the material covered throughout a course, and thanks to the team that I worked with, I am now better positioned to evaluate my initial career path upon completion of my engineering education. Thanks again for the opportunity to be a part of the DART extension construction team."

"I worked on the Loop 303 Improvement project in Peoria, AZ which involves the new construction of 18 bridges and 5.4 miles of four-lane divided freeway. I had the opportunity to work in the field office on several projects including: a few stem pours, surveying pipe runs with catch basins, and learning valuable skills from an experienced project team. I had limited knowledge about the heavy highway construction industry when I joined Austin, but having the opportunity to get involved in the field has greatly expanded my knowledge. My time with Austin Bridge & Road was a great experience and I learned a lot more about the industry from an experienced project team."
