Working at Austin Bridge & Road

We provide training and development programs to enhance leadership, management and technical skills, as well as internal promotions, job rotations and relocations to promote opportunities for increasing levels of growth and responsibility. Each of these opportunities allows our employee-owners to improve both personally and professionally while contributing to the long-term success of the company.

Austin Bridge & Road is 100% employee-owned; each employee-owner has a stake in the company’s success, and therefore the company invests in each employee-owner’s success. The resulting culture is an intense concern for the development, success and well-being of all of Austin’s people.

The focus on employee-owners is shown through these programs:

Unique and Interesting Work Assignments

Austin Industries is comprised  of three operating companies in three distinct construction industries. This diversity of work coupled with our internal job posting program provides employee-owners with a wide range of opportunities in varying roles.

Development Programs & Training

There are a variety of internal and external opportunities to enhance employee-owners’ leadership, management and technical skills. Managers and direct reports identify and address developmental needs for current work assignments and future opportunities.

Management Accountability Process (MAP)

MAP is a scheduled time for you and your manager to set performance goals, measure past performance, and assess your direction in the organization. Emphasis is put on individual development, determining the skills or abilities needed to reach your performance/career goals, and identifying the best way to deliver those skills and knowledge to you.

Internal Promotions

It is our policy to promote from within whenever possible.  Austin has an average employee-owner tenure of nine years, and our senior management team has an average tenure of 20 years.

Job Rotations

Many of our career tracks encourage rotation through several operational areas. It is considered a key developmental tool for assuring that future leaders have a well-rounded view of the company.

Performance Improvement Councils (PICs)

Provide a framework for collaborative problem-solving as employee-owners from various areas of the organization openly provide input and identify concerns about specific business issues in order to develop measures of improvement.

Competitive, Performance-based Pay and Benefits

Pay structures, bonus programs and long-term incentives are based on company performance, and performance is reviewed annually for compensation adjustments.

Austin Open Door Hotline

As a means for resolving workplace disputes, our Austin Open Door  Hotline policy (1) promotes open lines of communication, (2) reduces delay and difficulty in problem-solving, and (3) promotes win-win solutions. Independent third-party facilitators assist employee-owners confidentially.

Austin Family Fund

Austin Industries Disaster Relief Fund was established in 2005 to assist some of our employee-owners who were affected by the catastrophic hurricanes along the Gulf Coast. In 2011, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Austin Industries Employee Stock Ownership Plan, Austin Industries renamed Austin Industries Disaster Relief Fund to Austin Family Fund. The fund continues to assist employee-owners and their family members who experience emergency events beyond their control.

College Recruiting

In addition to the opportunity to work on large construction projects, employment with Austin Industries will locate you in one of various metropolitan areas in the United States, providing you with many options and choices when you graduate.
