A press conference was held Thursday, April 3rd, to recognize the opening of the Road to Six Flags and Baird Farm Road extensions along the north side of the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Austin Bridge & Road constructed this fast-track project, creating a new east-to-west artery running west of Ballpark Way. Construction included underground utilities, jack and bore, franchised utilities, excavation, grading, flatwork, asphalt paving, landscaping, irrigation, signage, and striping. Construction was completed on time and was ready for the Texas Rangers’ opening day festivities. “The project actually started almost three months late, but Austin was still able to complete the project on schedule in five months,” said Stephen Kitchen, project manager. “Employee-owners really put in the effort working nights, weekends, seven days a week to get this job done.” Speakers included Arlington mayor, Robert Cluck, and Texas Rangers’ president, Nolan Ryan. Both speakers expressed their appreciation for the work having been done so quickly and the contractor, Austin, exceeding all expectations. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed with free Nolan Ryan steak-on-a-stick and hamburgers to taste. "The Texas Rangers are excited about the improvements made to the two roads surrounding Rangers Ballpark in Arlington," said Rangers president, Nolan Ryan. "These road extensions signify the first step in improving the entertainment district inspired by GloryPark and will make it easier for fans to enter and exit Rangers Ballpark as the development progresses." “The Road to Six Flags had to be completed before the second phase of the project could begin. This second phase is the larger phase consisting of the construction of a 70-acre town center including a shopping mall, two hotels, five parking garages, 14 restaurants and retail stores and condominiums,” said Kitchen.
